Houston Violence
Houston we have a problem, a violent crime problem.
Houston, the 4th largest city in the US, is home to a crime wave and a rise in murders. The total number of murders for 2021 was 473, up 19% from 2020 and 71% from 2019. The city of Houston initiated One Safe Houston, a $53 million investment in crime reduction, in an attempt to bring down the number of violent crimes in the city. The program has seen some success with a decline in the number of assaults but not enough to say the program is working.
